Peel Guns and Gangs unit now on Twitter
Street crime and gangs in Brampton and Mississauga? It’s all on Twitter now.
At least, the Peel Regional Police officers who work in the Street Crime and Gang Unit are.
They have a new Twitter account (@PeelGunsandGang) where investigators and the public can interact, it was announced last week.
The unit works to solve community problems and creates Problem-oriented Policing Projects, working with targets street level crime. It also identifies street gangs and their members in Brampton and Mississauga. The unit even has a street gang database.
“The Peel Regional Police Gang Unit was the first in Ontario to successfully track and investigate targeted street gang members and stands at the forefront of street gang suppression and investigation,” according to the Peel police website. “This proactive, specialized policing style is globally recognized as a fundamental requirement of modern policing.”
