The City of Brampton is looking for input from the public on what to do with the old Heritage Theatre and associated buildings in the downtown core.
An open house public meeting will be held next Tuesday (June 26), 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Central Public School, 24 Alexander St.
The city is working on a plan for the “adaptive reuse” of what has been dubbed the Heritage Theatre Block, which is the four buildings on the east side of Main Street North, with addresses of 72 to 78 Main St. N.
After input from the public and various stakeholders, city staff will use the information to put together an Expressions of Interest (EOI) request during the summer months. The EOI would then be issued in the fall. The city is looking to the private sector, not-for-profit and institutional organizations for interest. The city hopes to find out who might want to set up shop in the old theatre and the other three city-owned buildings that make up the Heritage Theatre Block.
Re-development of the entire site has not been ruled out, so the fate of the 89-year-old Heritage Theatre, which is not designated as a heritage building, is still up in the air.
Anyone who can’t attend the open house can still offer input here or by emailing heritagetheatreblock@brampton.ca.
