Reviewing BBoT’s year of 2013 and looking ahead at 2014

January 10, 2014 - All News

January will soon be here and many of us are already beginning to convert plans of optimism for 2014 into accomplishment. In 2014, BBoT will continue the efforts that Glenn Williams, our Board, the BBoT team and I undertook throughout 2013.

We are fortunate indeed, that a number of new Board Directors have joined our senior management team and that under the Chair Leadership of Susan Crawford, BBoT will make 2014 a year of service and value to our membership.

Our International Trade Committee will move things to the next step. BBoT will convert relationships established with the Canadian Pakistan Business Council, The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce and several organizations into a number of networking events that bring member businesses together with the singular purpose of identifying business opportunity. To this end, we have plans in place to work hand in hand with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) to partner these activities.

(I mentioned at our AGM that I would soon write an article in Trade Talks that details the working relationship and benefits of BBoT’s membership with OCC and CCC. This will appear in February after I receive OCC’s 2014 plans and activity list, expected in January.)

Regarding BBoT events, visit our web site in early January. Our Event Committee will be posting BBoT’s 2014 calendar of events so at a glance, you can see which events you will not want to miss. BBoT will bring our Mayors Luncheon to the business community on February 11’th, our BBoT Business if the Year Award delivered in partnership with the Brampton Outstanding Business Achievement Awards in early spring and our Ladies on the Links and Annual Golf Tournament will occur later in the year. As well, we are bringing back the BBoT Gala in 2014 as well as the regular schedule of networking events.

Our Policy Committee will be hard at work. In conjunction with the 2014 Town Hall meetings we will hold, our ongoing work and alignment with the policy efforts of OCC and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and the Economic Development activities and issues within our business community, BBoT’s Policy work will be front and center.

As well, our Diversity and Inclusion Committee will announce an event or two that reflects their 2014 objectives within our community at large.

Our membership Values and Services (MVS) Committee will continue to share relevant information during New Member Orientation sessions and explain our business value proposition to new members as they join. Our Before Breakfast Networking Programs will increase the number of networking groups to include new members and invite them to participate in business to business activities. Please speak to a BBN member to learn how the BBN works for the member companies.

BBoT’s commitment to youth entrepreneurship and youth driven social innovation will become extremely visible in 2014. We will continue our work to establish a sustainable ecosystem that brings the efforts of the many partners I mentioned in my November article titled “Youth and Social Innovation’. Brampton’s future is intimately connected to our business leaders of tomorrow.

The year of 2013 was certainly all about change. The most rewarding aspect of change I observed, was watching BBoT rededicate itself as the ‘The Voice of Business’. Our heritage and mandate has always centered on what is important to our business members for BBoT to be an advocate about important business issues throughout our community. Our local and regional economy’s success has always been driven by the individual business owner / operator.

Throughout 2013 I observed Past Presidents and Directors, Committee Chairs and their member volunteers, our Ambassador’s roster of volunteers who make BBoT events happen; not to mention the many hours of our BBoT Team, working together on our member’s behalf. I say thank you for showing up and making a difference.

Your Chair, Board Directors, CEO and BBoT team will continue to put their best foot forward on your behalf throughout 2014.

We wish you and yours a healthy and happy new year.
